WHO WAS DR. LOUIS G. LAMOTHE?<\/h3>\n

The life and work of Dr. Louis G. Lamothe are a testimony to the fundamental values on which all societies must be built in order to flourish. Through his work, this Haitian intellectual wished to re-establish Haiti in its legitimate position as full member of the Latin American community, and remind the international community of Haiti’s contribution to the freedom, independence and sovereignty of the Latin American populations.<\/h4>\n

As the young Republic was isolated, ostracized and \u00ab\u00a0taken hostage\u00a0\u00bb by the colonial powers, the Haitian people did not hesitate to devote itself to the defense of the noble ideals that had encouraged it to free itself from the colonial yoke.
\nThis feat could only be accomplished thanks to a combination of the citizens’ intelligence, passion, knowledge, altruism and solidarity.<\/h4>\n

The tenacity of the Haitian people is reflected in the ongoing struggle for real freedom, inclusion and prosperity for all.<\/h4>\n

Born 11 August 1926, Dr. Louis G. Lamothe <\/span>
\nleft his mark in many different <\/span>
\ndomains, namely sport, tertiary education <\/span>
\n the teaching of the Spanish language and the dissemination <\/span>
\nof the works created by the great Latin American poets <\/span>
\ndfrom 1850 to 1950.<\/span><\/h3>\n

After obtaining a degree in Spanish literature in Chile in November 1952, he completed a doctorate in literature in Madrid in 1956. An experienced teacher, he taught modern languages \u00e0 the INAGHEI (National Institute of Administration,
\nManagement and International Studies) from 1975 to 1983 and at the Faculty of Ethnology from 1980 to 1995<\/h4>\n

He founded the Lope de Vega Institute in 1962 and remained at its helm until 1998.
\nHe thus endeavored to share his passion for the Hispanic culture and to promote the Spanish language in Haiti.
\nThe Lope de Vega Institute allowed many Haitian executives to discover the Latin American and Spanish cultures through cultural exchanges, among others.<\/h4>\n

At the same time, Dr. Louis G. Lamothe made a significant contribution to the promotion of the Haitian culture in Bolivia and in Suriname, and was a member of Suriname’s Consular Corps until his passing in 1999.
\nDuring his career, he received several prestigious distinctions, among which:<\/h4>\n

Cabarello de la Orden de Isabel la Cat\u00f3lica (Madrid, July 1975).<\/h4>\n

Honor and Merit of the Orden Mexicana del derecho y de la cultura (Mexico, May 1964).<\/h4>\n

A RICH LEGACY OF PUBLISHED WORKS<\/h3>\n

From 1956 to 1966, Dr. Louis G. Lamothe published more than 8 books aiming to facilitate the learning process of the Spanish language and to allow future generations to discover the Spanish and Latin American cultures and literatures.
